  • This is Substance Awareness Week. On Wednesday at lunch an information panel with reps from the Alcohol Substance Abuse Program, ACS, PAPD, YMCA MADD, and the Palo Alto Drug/Alcohol Community Collaborative will answer your questions.
  • Since March is Women’s History Month, we honor Adeline Virginia Woolf. Born in 1882, She was an English novelist, essayist, diarist, epistler, publisher, feminist, and short story writer. Woolf was a significant figure in London literary society and a member of the Bloomsbury Group. Her most famous works include Mrs. Dalloway, To the Lighthouse, and Orlando. As she wrote in A Room of One’s Own, “A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction.”
  • Student volunteers are needed for the June 27 Palo Alto Concours d’Elegance car show sponsored by the Palo Alto Lions Club. Volunteers get a free lunch and community service hours. Ask Ms. Gyves or Mr. Camicia for more information or call 941-6534.
  • Juniors: if you’re interested in a job in Astrophysics at Lockheed-Martin Corp., applications are available in the Work Experience office. You must have a minimum 3.5 gpa. See Ms. Gyves.
  • The deadline for the Arthritis Foundation Summer Science Internship has been extended to Friday, March 12. Information is in the job file in the Work Experience office.
  • Gunn students: the library wants your input! Take a short survey in the library and be entered to win a flip video. This offer ends March 20.
  • Future AP Science students: you must complete an application by March 12 to enroll. Copies of the application are available from your science teacher or in the Math-Science office.
  • March 10 is your last chance to pre-order a “Gay, fine by me” t-shirt to wear during “Not In Our Schools Week” starting March 29. Bring $5 to the SAC and fill out an order form!
  • The 4 th annual “Not In Our Schools” art contest information is available in the art department and main office. Pick up information and an application and start working on your artwork. Original flatwork, digital media, photography and 3-D work accepted. Entries are due by March 26. Prizes will be awarded during “Not In Our Schools Week,” March 29-April 2.
  • Coming next Friday at lunch: the annual seniors vs. staff “Clash of the Titans” basketball game! Donate $1 at the door to aid Haiti earthquake victims.
  • Today the Latino Student Union meets in L-27 at lunch, with everyone welcome.
  • Juniors interested in taking next year’s AP College English course may pick up information in L31 or online. Completed application portfolios are due no later than 3:30 pm Friday, March 12.
  • Enter an Academic Center drawing for a $25 giftcard. If you took Psychology last semester and have yet to return your book, return it to the Academic Center and you will be entered into the drawing. Deadline is Friday the 12th.
  • The Winter Sports Awards Night takes place in the Gym on March 9, 7-8 pm. All winter sport athletes and their parents are expected to attend.
  • All Gunn wrestlers: there will be a team meeting in the wrestling room today during lunch.
  • Do you have a favorite poem you’d like to share with Gunn? To celebrate National Poetry Month in April, students and staff will read their favorite poems on TBN. If you have a favorite poem or need suggestions, and would like to read it for the school, please see Mr. Dunlap or Mr. Corpuz.
  • Come to the library lobby to see some of Aubrie Lee’s and Constance Wu’s marvelous masterpieces through March 12.
  • AP test registration is currently available. Please register ONLINE as soon as you can through the student activities web-link. Chinese Language and Culture must be done IN PERSON in the SAC only. See Mr. Winston and our webpage if you have questions.
